When you think of Independence Day, what first comes to mind? A day off from work? Barbecue? Will Smith?
What are you celebrating today? I think we've lost sight of what July 4th was originally meant to celebrate. Without July 4, we would have been celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, on June 2 (which is also my birthday) this year. Do you know how many years we've been a country? Do you even think about our country's independence from England today? It's probably politically incorrect to talk about our now ally as our former tyrant, even though that's what today is all about.
I love America and believe it is the greatest nation in the world. We certainly aren't perfect, but I think we are the best. I love to travel, but in the words of Dorothy, "There's no place like home."
Take a few moments today and remember why we celebrate the 4th of July, then take the day off, eat some barbecue and watch Will Smith in Independence Day!
